The ‘Haus Ruth Crisis Centre for Abused Women and Children’ in Port Moresby came alive today when the Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, and Madam Lynda Babao, the Prime Minister’s wife paid a visit.
Upon her arrival at the women’s refuge centre at Ela Beach, the Duchess was met by Madam Lynda, and staff and occupants of Haus Ruth.
During a brief meeting, the Duchess of Cornwall and Ms Babao were briefed about the wonderful work the City Mission of PNG was doing at Haus Ruth in caring for those who needed help.
After the meeting, Ms Babao presented a skilfully crafted and framed copper beating of a Mother and a Child to her Royal Highness to commemorate her visit to Papua New Guinea.
The Duchess then met and chat with some of the occupants of Haus Ruth before meeting the rest of the staff and invited guests.
After her visit to Haus Ruth, the Duchess and Prince Charles met with the Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill who bade them farewell prior to their departure.
At the Jacksons International Airport, Prince Charles was given a guard of honour and final inspection of the guards before he made his way to board his plane for his onward journey to Australia and New Zealand.
Dignitaries present at the Jacksons Airport included PNG Defence Force Brigadier General Francis Agwi; Governor General, Grand Chief Sir Michael Ogio and spouse Lady Esmie; NCD Governor Powes Parkop; Speaker of the National Parliament, Theo Zurenuoc; Foreign Affairs and Immigrations Minister Rimbink Pato; Minister for Sports & Pacific Games, Justin Tkatchenko; Chief Secretary to Government, Manasupe Zurenuoc and Acting Foreign Affairs & Immigrations Secretary, Lucy Bogari.
