PM MAKES OFFICIAL VISIT TO AUSTRALIA

FOR RELEASE –SUNDAY 26 APRIL 2009

Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare leaves this afternoon on an official visit to Australia.

Sir Michael will be accompanied by Minister for Foreign Affairs, Trade & Immigration, Hon. Sam Abal, Minister for National Planning & District Development, Hon. Paul Tiensten, Vice Minister for Mining, Hon. Ano Pala and Member for Namatanai, Hon. Byron Chan.

Sir Michael will meet with his Australian counterpart, Kevin Rudd on Tuesday (28/04/09) in Canberra. Details of their discussions meeting will be made available after the meeting.

Minister Abal is expected to meet with Australian Minister for Trade, Hon. Simon Crean, which will be followed by a meeting with the Australian Minister for Immigration, Hon. Chris Evans.

Minister Tiensten will meet with the Parliamentary Secretary for Pacific Affairs, Hon. Duncan Kerr.

Sir Michael will also call on the Governor General, H.E. Ms Quentin Bryce.

On Wednesday, he is expected to meet with the Premier of Victoria, Hon. John Brumby before visiting areas that were affected by the recent bushfires.

On Thursday, Sir Michael will meet with the Federal Opposition Leader, Hon Malcolm Turnbull in Sydney.

Also on Thursday, the Prime Minister will address the PNG/Australia Business Council in Brisbane.

On Friday, he will get a briefing on the flood recovery efforts in the Ingham region in Townsville.

Sir Michael is expected to return to Port Moresby on 03/05/09.
