PM DEPARTS FOR OFFICIAL VISIT TO CHINA

FOR RELEASE –13 APRIL 2009

Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare left today on an official visit to the People’s Republic of China (PRC).

Sir Michael is visiting the PRC at the invitation of President Hu Jintao.

While in Beijing, Sir Michael will witness the signing of several agreements between officials of both countries.

On Tuesday (14/0409), Sir Michael will meet with President Hu.

On Wednesday, he will hold bilateral discussions with Premier Wen Jiabao.

Sir Michael is also expected to meet with officials of Chinese companies with interests in PNG, including CNMB, the parent company of BNBM, and MCC, the developers of the Ramu nickel/cobalt mine.

The Prime Minister returns on 21/04/09.
