Both Prime Ministers discussed bilateral issues affecting their countries and promised to work side by side.
Before the discussions began, Dr Sikua presented Sir Michael with traditional Solomon Islands shell money as a symbol of respect and to apologize to PNG for any misunderstanding that may have happened in the past.
"Solomon Islands and PNG have a special and unique relationship that has grown from strength to strength over the years. It is the intention of my government to further strengthen that relationship," Dr Sikua said.
Dr Sikua mentioned the Development and Cooperation Agreement between PNG and SI and sought further assistance to train Solomon Islands police personnel under the existing agreement.
Regional issues discussed included RAMSI, the Melanesian Spearhead Group and Fiji.
Sir Michael assured Dr Sikua of PNG's support and encouraged him to ask for help when there was a need.
Sir Michael said we would continue to train Solomon Islanders at our universities and medical school to become professionals in their chosen fields.
After a one-on-one meeting, Sir Michael introduced the SI PM's delegation to the following PNG Cabinet Ministers: Ben Semri (Fisheries), Michael Laimo (Higher Education), Dr Allan Marat (Justice) and Sam Abal (Foreign Affairs).
Ministers held informal talks as a form of introduction.
Members of Dr Sikua's delegation included the Foreign Minister William Haomae; Laurie Chan, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Relations; Rence Sore, Secretary to the PM; Jeremiah Manele, Secretary Foreign Affairs; Matthew Wale, Chief of Staff to the PM; George Palua, Advisor to the PM; John Walton Wasi, Assistant Secretary Foreign Affairs; and Madam Doris Sikua.
